Betty Jane Cogswell Clay, 87, of Bryceville, Florida, and formerly of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, April 3, 2021. Betty was a devoted and passionate public servant at Floyd County Head Start for many years. She loved helping people that were less fortunate and was always an advocate of children's causes.
She was born on April 16, 1933, in New Albany, Indiana, to the late Millard Cogswell and Mary (Endris) Cogswell. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, James Michael Clay; brothers, Wilbur Cogswell, Arthur Cogswell, and Robert Cogswell; and sisters, Vera Schoonover, Ruth Cogswell, and Cecilia Brown.
Betty is survived by her loving son, David (Edith) Clay; daughter-in-law, Susan Clay; grandchildren, Alex Clay, James Clay, Hollie (Michael) Madison, Hannah (Derek) Young, and Kiya (Mark) Stewart; great-grandchildren, Pierce, Lily, Asher, and Mason. She is also survived by her loving best friend, Dawn DeWitt.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2021, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Her Funeral Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with a private entombment to follow at Fairview Cemetery in New Albany.
