Celebrating a Century of Life: In Loving Memory of Betty Ann (Browning) Chambers

Betty Ann (Browning) Chambers, age 100, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2026. Born on December 8, 1925 in New Castle, Indiana, she lived a remarkable century of life, witnessing extraordinary changes in the world while remaining grounded in the people and values she held dear.

A Life Well Lived

Over her lifetime, Betty was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. She was known for her kindness, determination, humor, faith, and resilience. She had a way of making others feel welcomed, valued and loved, and her presence enriched the lives of those who spent time with her.

One hundred years was a remarkable run, and family was at the heart of Betty’s life. She especially cherished her marriage to Bud (Ovid), the N.A.H.S. band director for 35 years. Their 69-year marriage was loving and fun, especially enjoying the 4 daughters they raised, family holidays, and travel to explore the beauty of this world. Her family will remember Betty for her feistiness, humor, piano playing, butterscotch pie, and willingness to learn new things.

When her daughters became teenagers, Betty began working at L. Thorn Company. Throughout her life, Betty enjoyed involvement in church, travel, reading, music, community service, calligraphy and oil painting. She also swam laps for an hour at the Y.M.C.A until her 90th birthday. Back in the l970’s, Betty was honored to serve as the first female board president and one of the first female deacons at Central Christian Church, where she was a faithful disciple for more than 70 years. She helped shape generations through her example, her wisdom, and everyday moments. Betty and Bud also enjoyed ushering at the Kentucky Center for the Arts and Actor’s Theater in Louisville. Those who loved her will carry forward not only the stories of what she did, but the spirit in which she lived.

A century of life brings its share of challenges, changes, laughter, and love. Betty’s journey held all of these, and her loving family is grateful for the seasons she was theirs to hold. While they will miss her presence, they will celebrate her in family traditions and stories, remembering the countless ways she helped make them who they are.

Betty is survived by 4 daughters Lynn Bleemel, Kay Chambers (Bruce McCann), Carol McKinney (George), Ann Lucas; 5 grandchildren Nikole Skaggs (Jason), Danielle McKinney, Eric McKinney (Caseye), Jordan Lucas (Kelsey), Kellen Lucas; 6 great-grandchildren Josey and Molly Neidiffer, McKinsey Morgan, Aiden and Regan McKinney; and Hudson Lucas. She was preceded in death by her parents Grover and Pearl Browning, husband Ovid (Bud) Chambers, grandchild Chad Neidiffer, and siblings Ruth, Carl, Dorothy, Jessie, Russell, and John.
