Bertha Marie (Marking) Zabel, 81, of Lanesville, Indiana passed away on August 7, 2017. She was a devoted wife and loved spending time with her family.
Bertha was born on June 30, 1936, in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Arthur J. & Antoinette A. (Schoenbaechler) Marking. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her children, Steve Zabel, Christa Snyder, Cindy Zabel and Tony Zabel; son in law, Michael Barr; and daughter in law, Rhonda Higdon.
She is survived by her loving husband, Darrell Zabel; children, Angela Barr, Richard Higdon (Donna), Becky Suddeth (Robert), Norman Higdon, Donald Higdon (Patti), Mary Lowe, Todd Zabel and Sheila Price (Steve); son in law, Gaius Snyder (Cheryl); 10 brothers and sisters; 22 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 PM Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Her Funeral Service will be held Friday, August 11, 2017 at 11 AM at the funeral home with burial to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville, IN.
