Berniece (Schmidt) Banet, 90, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday morning, July 5, 2016. She was a lifelong resident of Floyds Knobs and member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church. Berniece was the past president of Christian Mothers and was very involved with volunteering at Floyd Memorial Hospital and at the St. Vincent DePaul soup kitchen.
Berniece was born on November 16, 1925, in Floyd County to the late John and Bertha (Kiesler) Schmidt. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Odell; sisters, Margaret Mann and Catherine Baumann; brothers, Raymond and Virgil Schmidt; and daughter-in-law, Rita Banet.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Theresa Getrost (Gary) and Joan Endris (Joe); sons, Michael, Paul (Rebecka), Ralph (Denise), and Reverend Stephen Banet of St. Jude Parish in Indianapolis; sister, Dorothy Gettelfinger; 18 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2016, with a Rosary Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana 47150). Additional Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday, July 11, 2016, at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church (5719 St. Mary's Road, Floyds Knobs, Indiana 47119). Her Funeral Mass will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Meinrad Archabbey (211 Hill Drive, St. Meinrad, Indiana 47577).
