Bernice E. (Holden) Nolan, 95, of New Albany passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2018, at The Villas of Guerin Woods in Georgetown, Indiana. She was a founding member of Holy Family Catholic Church in New Albany, a past member of the choir, and a Eucharistic Minister. She supported the mission of Mount St. Francis Center for Spirituality and assisted at many of their fundraising events. She was a Lions Club member and a recipient of the New Albany Deanery Catholic Youth Ministries' St. John Bosco Award. With her husband, she was honored with the Celebrating Catholic Schools Values Career Achievement Award from the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. She served on over 50 medical eye missions, many with VOSH – Indiana (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity), to Honduras and Central America.
Bernice was born on May 19, 1922, in Louisville, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James Raymond Nolan.
Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Ziegler (Al) of Columbia, Illinois; sons, Dr. Ronald Nolan (Angela) and Alan Nolan (Beth), all of New Albany, and Brian Nolan of Sherman Village, California; brother, Cletus Holden of Louisville; grandchildren, Matthew (Rachel) Nolan, Nick (Kelly) Nolan, Gregg (Megan) Nolan, Geoff (Joy) Ziegler, Tom (Melissa) Ziegler, Michelle Ziegler, Jim (Alana) Nolan, Gary (Rachel) Nolan, and Laura (Joshua) Rose; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2, and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) with rosary and eulogy services at 7:00 p.m. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in New Albany.
