Bernice Boxley Hunter, a cherished spirit of Louisville, Kentucky, peacefully departed this life on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at the remarkable age of 91.
Born on April 30, 1933, in Covington, Virginia, Bernice was the beloved daughter of Willie and Carrie (Grant) Boxley. She was preceded in death by her stepmother Nancy Boxley, her devoted husband, Moses P. Hunter, as well as her dear children, Jewel Lewis, Moses Hunter, Jr., and Stephen Hunter. She is also reunited with her brother, William Boxley, Sr., and grandson, Gary Hunter Jr. in eternal rest.
Her love persists through her family, who will carry her memory in their hearts forever. Bernice is survived by her beloved children: daughter Valerie Champion, son Gary Hunter, daughters Morinda Hunter, Donna Hunter, and Karen Adams. She leaves behind a treasured legacy of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members, all of whom will miss her deeply.
A true matriarch, Bernice was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She found her greatest joys in the love shared among her family. Her unwavering faith was a cornerstone of her life; Bernice accepted Christ at an early age, she was a longstanding member of First Baptist Church in Covington, Virginia, where she served as head usher, and she also participated in Meadowlawn Baptist Church in Louisville.
Bernice’s warmth and kindness touched the lives of many. Her sociable personality lit up every room, whether she was playing cards with close friends, crocheting beautiful pieces, or engaging in her beloved word searches. She approached life with a giving heart and an infectious spirit, leaving behind countless fond memories to be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
