Bernice Jean (Stumler) Conder, passed away on September 3, 2026 at the age of 85.
Born on September 26, 1940 in Starlight, Indiana, Bernice was the daughter of Elmer Stumler and Rosalena (Koetter) Stumler. In addition to her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by her brothers, Vincent, Kenny, Norman, Andrew, Melvin and Gene; her sisters, Kathryn and Anita; her sisters-in-law, Mary Lou, Martha Lee, Linda; and her brother-in-law, John Jacobi.
She was raised in Starlight on the family farm, where she learned the value of hard work and dedication. Bernice attended Our Lady of Providence High School and graduated in 1959. After graduation, Bernice began a 31 year career at Floyd Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed traveling across not only the United States, but also Europe and the Holy Land.
On June 10, 2000, she married Joe Conder and together they enjoyed many adventures together, as well as spending time with family and friends.
Bernice is survived by her loving husband of 26 years, Joe Conder; her step-children, Paula Huffman (Steve), Terry Conder, Christopher Conder (Tracy); step-grandchildren, Craig (Sarah), Justine (Mac), Shaun, Jason; brothers, Irvin (Pat), Steve (Cheri), Anthony (Louise); sisters, Sr. Geneva, Leona (Zach), Geneva (Bob), Helen (Jim); sisters-in-law, Sher, Judy, Debbie, Marcella, Nancy; and many loving nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and continue after 9:00 a.m. on Saturday at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church (5719 St. Mary's Road, Floyds Knobs). Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church, with burial to follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery in Starlight.
Contributions in Bernice's memory may be made to Hosparus Health or to the American Parkinson Disease Association.
