Bernard "Bernie" Korte, 74, of Lanesville, Indiana passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2021.
Bernie was a man that understood the most important things in life were the simple ones: the time he spent sitting with his mother at the table drinking coffee, gathered with his brothers and sisters telling stories, or laughing and playing with his grandchildren—no amount of time spent with his loved ones was enough. The only three accomplishments he cared about were his true love affair of 50 years, his three "smart, strong, amazing" children, and the six grandchildren he thought hung the moon. He was a hard worker, but you never heard him complain, and he was always finding ways to make his work fun. His whole life he was able to hold on to a youthful, hopeful, inquisitive spirit that kept him eager to learn more about the world he lived in. He enjoyed being outside and recognized the beauty all around him—he loved to watch a field being planted, birds at his feeders, and a beautiful sunrise. He had a gentle spirit and spoke unkind words about no one. He walked gently on this earth, but left a clear path for us to follow.
He was born on November 4, 1947, in New Albany, Indiana, to the late Bernard "Bud" and Agnes (Trouy) Korte. Along with his parents, Bernie was preceded in death by his sister, Laura Hess.
Bernie is survived by his devoted wife, Jane Ann Korte; daughter, Kimberly (James) Ellis; son, Jason (Jessica) Korte; son, Timothy (Amber) Korte; grandchildren, Rose (Josh) Harvey, Emma Ellis, Lily Korte, Eva Ellis, William Korte, and Kaylee Korte; brother, Edward Korte; sister, Donna Langdon; sister, Bernadette Wheatley; brother, Michael Korte; brother, Ron Korte; sister, Mary Shoultz; and sister, Theresia Cunningham. Bernie also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. His big, warm smile, his fun-loving ways, and his kind and gentle spirit will be missed by all that knew him.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (with the Rosary at 7:30 p.m.) on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - New Albany (3309 Ballard Lane). His Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Lanesville with burial to follow at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in Charlestown, Indiana.
