Benton Ralph Burns, fondly known as "Ben or Benny," was born on January 14, 1948, in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. He peacefully made his journey home on February 17, 2026, surrounded by his family. While raised in Central City, Kentucky, Ben spent most of his adult life in Louisville.
Ben was a hard worker throughout his life. In his earlier years, he worked in various construction and management capacities. He was a member and leader within the Home Builders Association of Kentucky. He later discovered his talent for sales, using his gift of gab as a salesman for Asphalt Driveways. His commitment to hard work was exceeded only by his love for family.
Ben was a graduate of Central City High School, Class of 1966. He was a gentle giant known for his wit, sarcasm, and charm which often brought laughter and joy to those around him.
Ben cherished his family above all else. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sharon Kay Burns, who stood by his side through life's ups and downs. He also leaves behind his daughter, Holly (Del) Hall, and his son, Kyle (Angela) Burns. Ben's legacy continues through his three beloved grandsons, Zach (Amanda) Cooley, Dakota Benton Burns, and Drew Burns, as well as his three beautiful great-grandchildren, Matthew Cooley, Bella Cooley, and Liam Cooley. His siblings, Jack Burns, Marsha (David) Greenwood, and Teresa (Greg) Moore, along with stepsisters Kathy Huth and Debbie Umhoefer, also hold dear memories of their time with him. He will be missed by a host of extended family and friends.
Ben was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Burns, his mother, Edna Huth, and his stepfather, John Huth. He also mourned the loss of his son-in-law, Terry Cooley.
Ben relished the moments spent at Nolin Lake and Lake Malone. He enjoyed fishing, backyard bird watching and the beauties of nature. He was an avid supporter of his favorite sports teams, passionately cheering on the University of Kentucky, Cardiac Cards and the Cincinnati Reds. He loved many family pets over the years. Grounded in his faith, Ben was a protector with a kind heart, always ready to lend words of wisdom or a helping hand.
