Listen to Obituary

Benjamin J. Ritchey III, known affectionately as BJ, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026, having lived a rich and enduring life of 88 years. Born on August 30, 1937, in Louisville, Kentucky, BJ’s journey was marked by unwavering commitment to his family, warmth, and an indelible presence that touched the lives of many.

Ben was a beloved son of Ben Ritchey, Jr. and Margaret Ritchey (Dahlem), and the cherished brother of Ronnie Ritchey, all of whom preceded him in death. The influence of his early years and the values instilled by his family were evident throughout his life.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Elizabeth Ritchey, whose steadfast companionship was the cornerstone of his later years. Together, they created a legacy of love and unity that continues in their children: Heather Ritchey, Donna Green, and Margaret Groll. Ben’s nurturing spirit and gentle guidance helped shape his children’s lives, and his pride in their accomplishments was limitless.

Ben’s influence extended across generations, and he took particular joy in the presence of his grandchildren Kristi Hodges, Cathy Hodge, and great-grandchildren, Ethan, Talon, and Shaylee all of whom survive him and will carry forward his memory through their own lives and families. He is also survived by his siblings Elise Farmer, Terry (Diane) Ritchey, and Kim (JoAnne) Ritchey.

Throughout his years, Ben remained steadfastly connected to his roots in Louisville, KY, where his journey began. His dedication to family and the friendships he fostered left an enduring mark, a testament to a life well lived and deeply valued by all who knew him.

Ben’s passing leaves a profound absence for those who loved him, but his legacy endures in the stories, values, and love he shared so generously. He is remembered with deep gratitude and respect.
