Ben Lee Hunt Sr. of Salvisa, Ky, passed away on December 26, 2020 at the age of 85. Ben died peacefully with his family by his side.
Ben was born in Sharpsburg, KY on January 2, 1935, to William Clifford Hunt and Edith Dale Hunt. He grew up in Mt Sterling, KY helping his family farm. He met his wife, Valla as she went to church with his mom and sister and were married shortly thereafter. They started their married life in Lexington, Ky with Valla's three young sons. In the next several years, they added two sons and daughters to their family. They also lived in Glensboro, Bagdad, Bloomfield, Eastwood and Pleasureville before they ended up in Shelbyville.
Ben continued working as a farmer and eventually started to work for the City of Louisville Metro Parks. He enjoyed and prided himself in taking care of the parks and had a fondness for Long Run Park. The family often picnicked and fished there over the years. Due to a knee injury, he retired early and spent his days fishing at Lake Shelby and Guist Creek Marina. After moving to Taylorsville, KY he could be seen at Taylorsville Lake fishing for the next big catfish.
Ben is survived by two sons, Ben Hunt Jr of Taylorsville, William Jeffrey Hunt (Linda Hunt) of Bedford, and two daughters, Ellen Peach (Doyle Powell) of Eminence, and Sharron Marie Wheatley (Tony) of Salvisa. He is survived by three step sons in Lexington, Jerry Welch (Phyllis), David Welch (Teresa), and Dwayne (Marianne). He is also survived by twelve grandchildren: Brian Keith Peach (Elisabeth) of Lawrenceburg, Charles Hunt of Taylorsville, Ryan Thomas Wheatley (Jamie) of Campbellsville, Andrew Christian Wheatley (Amber Henon) of Taylorsville, Kathryn Wheatley, Eva Wheatley, Madison Wheatley, Brooklyn Wheatley, and Avery Wheatley of Salvisa, and Marqarita Powell and William Stornes of Bedford. He is survived by five great grandchildren. He is also survived a brother, William Hunt and sister Rose Hunt of Winchester.
He was proceeded in death by his loving wife, Valla Marie Birch Hunt, his father William Hunt, his mother Edith Dale Hunt, and a brother Gilbert Hunt.
There will be a graveside service on Thursday December 31, 2020 at Grove Hill Cemetery, Shelbyville Ky at 1pm. A celebration of life will be held at a later date at Taylorsville Lake with warm weather, fishing, family and friends the way he enjoyed.
