Basil Hudson Burgess

May 27, 1931 — March 31, 2016

Basil Hudson Burgess, 84, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away on March 31, 2016. He retired from The Operative Plasters and Cement Masons' Local after 60 years. Basil was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church where he was a Deacon. He served in the Army from 1948 to 1952 as a member of the Constabulary, 6th Armored Cavalry.

Basil was born on May 27, 1931, in Glasgow, Kentucky to the late Darse and Iva (Chambers) Burgess. He was also preceded in death by his 8 siblings and grandson, John Carpenter.

Basil is survived by his wife of 7 years, Marion Jean Burgess; sister, Pheba Jane Forbes; children, Terry Carpenter, Dan Burgess, Randy Carpenter, and Lisa Ernspiker; step-children, Tom Ernspiker, Lori Lopez, Mark Ernspiker, Cathy Batts, Tammy Ernspiker, and Dana Kinser; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home (235 Juneau Drive, Louisville). His Funeral Ceremony will be held Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 10:00 am at Newcomer Funeral Home - East Louisville with burial to follow at Hopewell Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
