Barkley David Houchens, 84, of Jeffersonville, Indiana passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2015. He retired as a machinist from American Synthetic Rubber Company in Louisville after 37 years of service and was a member of the IAM Local 681. Barkley was also a free mason, a member of the Scottish Rite, as well as a Kosair Shriner.
He was born on August 24, 1931 in Allen County, Kentucky to the late Romie Houchens and Mary (Reynolds) Goodrich. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Francis Reynolds, Mae Neimiller, and Stella Jacob.
Barkley is survived by his wife of 65 years, Genevieve (Boggs) Houchens; children, Paula Ridgway (Ed), Theresa Wilson, Jerry Wade Houchens; grandchildren, Jennifer Kaufman, Casey Ridgway (Charlene), Brent Wade Houchens (Erica Thompson), Jeff Wilson, Mark Wilson; and 3 great-grandsons.
Visitation will be from 4 PM to 8 PM on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday in the chapel at the funeral home with burial to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville.
