SEMONES, BARBARA SIMS, 74, of Louisville, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2015.
She fought Parkinson's disease with unwavering courage and strength for eleven years before coming to peace.
Barbara was always most happy when she was in the service of others. She offered warm smiles, kind words, and assistance to anyone she would meet. She also loved quilting, dancing, writing poetry, reading and telling stories.
Barbara retired from Bell South and became a bartender at the Seelbach Hotel, which became her favorite job. She was so proud to work in such a beautiful setting.
Barbara was surrounded in life and death by those she loved. She is survived by her children, Toni Hertel (Michael), Chris Semones (Melinda), and Traci Simonsen (Doug); her grandchildren, Brad, Lauren, Jennifer, Lydia, Alec, Noah, and Jadon. She is also survived by her brothers, Bill, Tony, Art, Richard, Ken and Jeff Sims; and sisters, Martha Jean Liebert, and Mary Sims; as well as countless devoted friends, including her life-long friend, Martha Sander. She was preceded in her death by her parents, Pat and Dorothy Sims, and her brothers, Robert and Thomas Sims.
The family would like to give a special thanks to her wonderful doctors, Dr. Angela Hardwick, Dr. William Dillon, and Dr. Staci Mandrola; and her caregiving teams from Brookdale Blankenbaker, Hosparus, Helping Hands, and the Episcopal Church Home.
Visitation will begin at 10am, followed by a memorial service at noon, on Friday, September 18th, at Brookdale Blankenbaker, located at 901 Blankenbaker Road.
