In profound sorrow and with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Barbara Ann Dixon, a cherished soul who graced this world from December 5, 1955, until her departure on January 24, 2026. Born in the hills of Knott County, Barbara lived a life devoted to the nurturing of others, encapsulated in her remarkable thirty years as a registered nurse. Her vocation was not merely a career; it was a calling, defined by her kindness and empathy, which she offered so freely.
Barbara's indomitable spirit was evident in all her interests. She found solace near water, where nature would embrace her, and she reveled in the company of horses and dogs that brought joy to her days. Her creativity shone through in her quick mastery of the piano, an instrument she learned to play in just a year. A historian at heart, her fondness for antiquing and preserving memorabilia echoed a deep appreciation for life's fleeting moments.
Above all, Barbara was immensely proud of her family, who were the cornerstone of her existence and her greatest achievement. Her love for them was boundless, transcending the ordinary and solidifying into a legacy that will live on in their hearts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raphael and Dollie Hayes and her siblings, Glenn Hayes, Charles Hayes, Ivan Hayes, Shirl Hayes and Vondon Hayes.
Barbara leaves behind to cherish her memories, her husband, of 54 years, Alonzo Dixon; children, Triton Dixon, Christal (Jason) Baldwin and Jacinta Dixon; grandchildren, Silas, Sarah, Luke, Grace and Joshua; great-granddaughters, Sophia and Kassandra; siblings, Rodney (Becky) Hayes, Opal (Billy) Scott and Anna Mae (Carlos) Moore and many nieces, nephews and friends.
The tribute to her life will commence with a visitation held at Newcomer Funeral Home in Southwest Louisville, located at 10304 Dixie Hwy, on February 2, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This will be followed by a funeral service on February 3, 2026, beginning at 12:00 PM, again at the same venue. A graveside service will conclude the ceremonies at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery in Fort Knox, 2501 North Dixie Boulevard, at 1:30 PM. Marlin Kimball will be officiating Barbara's service.
As we gather to honor Barbara's memory, let us carry forth her compassion and love for life, ensuring that her beautiful spirit continues to influence those fortunate enough to have known her.
