Barbara Eugenia Butler

We are here today to say goodbye to Barbara eugenia butler. Barbara was born in Belize City, Belize august 8, 1934; to the parents of Durant Robert Butler and Kathleen may Mclymont. Barbara was an only child on her mom’s side. In her 92 years of living, Barbara modeled & started singing. She began to let her voice be heard at various venues such as churches, supper clubs, weddings, etc. She traveled between Belize and Jamaica singing in both English and Spanish. Some of the selections Barbara was frequently asked to perform was the “ave ’maria” and “the lord’s prayer”. 

On June 13th, 1963, in Kingston, Jamaica, Barbara and Austin C. Watson became parents to daughter, Cecile Alicia Watson. They both were thankful for a healthy baby girl. In 1976, Barbara relocated to the United States and became employed at Los Angeles high school as a bilingual assistant teacher. She worked in that profession for a few years and then got a job working as a live-in Caregiver with a few elite families. In that job, Barbara was well liked and respected.

 In the late 90’s she retired and in June 2000 Barbara and her mother moved to Palmdale to live with her daughter, son-in-law and grandkids. In 2005 Barbara was diagnosed with dementia. She remained with her family, relocating eventually to Louisville, Kentucky in December 2018. As her decease progressed, she could not coherently conversate but still had her loving, funny, kind, and calm demeanor. She always loved to sing and sang on/off all the time around the house and on the bus with her active day adult care. We were often told the tenants enjoyed hearing her sing at the facility as well. On January 26th Barbara had a stroke and was hospitalized for a week. Her health declined drastically but in the last of her days. Barbara and her daughter spent much time together and some days were spent singing her new favorite “this little light of mine”, sometimes joined by her great grandson, Avani. 

Sadly, on Aug 13th at 9:30pm, she took her final breath surrounded by family. She leaves behind her daughter, Cecile Alicia Williams and son-in-law, Larry Williams, grand kids (Charisse Williams, Dominic graves, Kaisa Williams, Tangela Williams and Shaquela Williams). Great grandkids Avani, Cali, DJ, Isiah, Nova, Savanna and Mikey.
