Barbara Hahn Brooks, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on December 30, 1934, in Louisville, Kentucky, Barbara’s life was marked by warmth, generosity, and a deep devotion to her faith.
Barbara was a proud alumna of Ursuline Academy, graduating in 1952, and a dedicated member of The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her commitment to education and heritage was evident throughout her life, blending her passions for genealogy, photography, and gardening, pursuits that brought her joy and a sense of connection to the past and present.
Known for her infectious smile and vivacious laughter, Barbara’s caring and generous spirit touched the hearts of everyone she met. A devout Catholic, her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her with compassion and grace. She had a particular fondness for cats, often sharing stories of her feline companions with affection.
Barbara is survived by a devoted family that reflects her nurturing nature and the legacy of love she leaves behind. Her children include her son, Michael Brooks; her son Dean Brooks and his partner Kristina Bryant; her daughter, the Reverend Mary Virginia Brooks; her daughter Cathy Pennell and her partner Junie Yadon; and her daughter Jennifer Shelton and her husband Shawn. She delighted in her grandchildren—Matthew, Lauren, Anna-Leigh (Jake and Spencer), and Jillian—and was fondly remembered by her niece, Celeste.
Her family also honors the memory of her late parents, Hyatt and Pauline Hahn, her late husband Thomas Brooks, her sister Joyce Ilari, her daughter Barbara, and her daughter-in-law Debbie Brooks. These cherished souls remain a profound part of her story and legacy.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 23, 2026. Visitation will start at 10:00am until 12:00 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church with funeral mass at 12:00 noon. 212 Mt. Mercy Dr. Pewee Valley, KY 40056.
Barbara Hahn Brooks’s life was a testament to the enduring power of love, faith, and family. Her memory will remain a guiding light for those who knew her, a source of comfort, and an inspiration to embrace life with kindness and joy. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered with respect and admiration.
