Barbara Ann Walker, born August 1, 1942, passed away on September 3, 2026. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, devotion, and quiet strength that touched the lives of many.
Barbara built a dedicated career in the federal government, serving in the Postal Exchange, Commissary, and Naval Ordnance Accounting, where she later retired. Her years of work reflected her steady commitment and dependability, qualities that also shaped the way she cared for those around her.
She embraced life with warmth and enthusiasm. Barbara enjoyed soap operas, traveling to Spain and Canada, taking cruises, and watching plays. She was also a devoted fan of the Baltimore Ravens and especially enjoyed cheering for Lamar Jackson. Among the accomplishments she held dear were living in Germany for six years and opening her heart and home as a foster mother to many children. In these experiences, Barbara shared generosity, curiosity, and compassion in ways that will not be forgotten.
At the center of Barbara’s life was her faith. She loved God and her church, Saint Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, and she was known for always praying over her family and others. That steady spiritual care was one of her greatest gifts. She fought the good fight and is now at home with Jesus.
Barbara is survived by her loving children, Bruce Lavender, Felecia (James Brown), Curtis Lavender, Darlene (Samuel Jones), Frank Lavender III, Nannette (Will Dawson); grandchildren, Barbara Sanders, Teresa (Anup) Sargurudoss, Ronnie Jerman, Jr., Michael Wayne Jerman, Da'Meca (Tyson) Harbin, Brandon (Terri) Lavender, Ashley (Shawn) Shobe, Jofrantanay Lavender, Sha'Nae Minnett, Jovante Lavender, Re'Gina (Keontay) Carnell, Alexius (Brendon) Lavender-Hemminger, Ryan Bowser, Michael Dawson, Tyler Holding, Mekenzee Dawson, and Jasmine Dawson; great-grandchildren as she would say "Numerous as the stars in the sky"; siblings, Roger Walker, Virginia Burns, Karen(Greg) Cain, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends to cherish her memory forever.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Annie Walker, father, Samuel Walker, son, Kevin Lavender and brother, Samuel Walker, Jr.
Family and friends will gather to honor Barbara’s life on September 12, 2026, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville, 10304 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, Kentucky 40272.
