Bane Kerr, 45, passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, October 25, 2025. Bane loved to surprise his friends and family, and his passing has come as quite a surprise to all who knew him.
Born in New Orleans, Louisiana he moved to Kentucky in his early childhood. Bane grew up on horse farms, but you'd never guess it as he had a love for video games, comics, and movies from a young age. Bane was a fountain of Nintendo knowledge in particular. He could name a game from just a few notes of its theme music, or from an image of the package art. In his free time, you could find him watching speedruns on Twitch, or playing his favorite game, World of Warcraft. He was a proud raid leader and tank for his guild, The Taswell Covenant, who he played with almost nightly.
Every October Bane would indulge in horror movie marathons with friends. He often responded to people with movie quotes. Even adding a Joker quote from the 1989 Batman movie, "This town needs an enema." to his wedding vows just for the fun of having it in his vows. Obviously, Batman was a favorite series for him, even taking the name of his favorite villain who broke the hero both physically and mentally. He enjoyed any good comic villain though.
His heart was huge, even dwarfing his seven foot tall frame. Bane always helped his friends when he could, whether they needed a listening ear, help buying groceries, or even surprising them with Christmas and birthday gifts. He never asked for anything in return. He even kept his birthday a secret from many never asking or wanting any gifts. He supported local food banks, and national charities supporting health initiatives, equal access to gaming, mental health and suicide prevention, LGBTQ+ rights, women's rights, and various children's hospitals.
Bane is survived by his wife Liza Kerr (Smith), mother Lillan Wetherby-(Kerr), step-father Alden Wetherby, estranged brother Kevin Kerr, mother-in-law Karen McDonald Smith, father-in-law Michael Smith, and sister-in-law Jennifer Smith. He also leaves behind many friends all over the world who will miss his witty quips, jokes, and barrel laughter.
To honor Bane's wishes there will be no formal funeral service, instead a memorial gathering of friends will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243) to share stories and laugh on Saturday, November 8, 2025 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
As Bane was never much one for flowers, please consider making a donation in his honor to one of his favorite charities AbleGamers or the Suicide and Crisis Hotline.
