Bailey Peyton Grigsby, Jr., born March 30, 1953, in Hazard, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky. Bailey's life was marked by unwavering dedication to family, service to his country.
Bailey was the beloved son of Bailey Peyton Grigsby, Sr. and Theora Oest Grigsby, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his cherished wife, Ellen Diane Grigsby, whose memory remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Bailey is survived by those who meant the world to him: his children, Gregory Grigsby, Kimberley Grigsby Morgan, Bailey Peyton Grigsby, III (Darla), and William Frank. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Shilo, Brandon, Nora, Bailey IV, and River, as well as his great-grandchildren, Sophia, Raven, Grayson, AJ, and Wyatt.
His early years were shaped by a deep sense of duty and patriotism. Bailey proudly served his country during the Korean War as an enlisted member of the United States Army. He took the values of strength and determination with him and after returning home, Bailey began a lengthy career as a steel mill worker.
Bailey was a man who found joy in both activity and relaxation. In his younger years, he enjoyed golfing and bowling, and the competition they brought. Following medical procedures later in life, Bailey discovered a new avenue for connection and entertainment, in playing Diablo and World of Warcraft with his family. These adventures created cherished memories and laughter that will be fondly recalled by all who shared them with him.
A steadfast 49ers fan, Bailey’s enthusiasm for his team was well known among his friends and family. He also found peace and happiness in tending to his "flowers".
To honor Bailey Peyton Grigsby, Jr.’s memory and service, a Graveside Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, August 3, 2026, at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery, located at 2501 North Dixie Boulevard, Fort Knox, KY 40121.
