Archie Russell, 75 took his final rest on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
Archie was born to the late Virginia Mae Russell and Alexander Russell Sr. on April 10th, 1951 in Louisville, Kentucky. He graduated from Eastern High School in Middletown, KY.
Archie was a faithful servant of the Lord. He was baptized at Pilgrim Baptist Church, Middletown, KY. He married his beloved wife, Gretchen, in 1997, and together they shared 29 years of marriage. A man of many talents, he was an avid painter and a skilled mechanic by trade. He owned and operated an automotive repair shop in Middletown, Kentucky, as well as a home-based repair shop in the Portland neighborhood of Louisville, KY. Archie also dedicated many years of service as an owner-operator school bus driver for Jefferson County Public Schools in Louisville, KY. Later in his career, he worked for United Parcel Service (UPS), where he retired. Throughout his life, Archie took pride in his work, his craftsmanship, and the many contributions he made to his family and community.
Archie was always "unapologetically Archie". He left an unforgettable impression on everyone he met. He loved to start up a conversation and engage and get to know you. He always had a good story and loved to talk about his many hobbies. Including music, movies, art and painting, cars, hunting, and his greatest love fishing. But most of all he was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Neighbor, and Friend.
Archie was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Virginia Russell; son, Daniel; two brothers, Dennis Jerome Russell and Alexander Russell, Jr.; sisters, Rosiland Russell and Roberta Clay and sister-in-law, Donna Russell.
He is survived by his wife Gretchen Russell; grandson Daniel Mason; sister, Paula; brothers George and Ray (Kathy); brother-in-law, Steven Raines; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 7, 2026, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Southwest Louisville Chapel. 10304 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY, from 10am-12pm with a celebration of Archie's life beginning at 12pm.
