Anna Marie (Schmelz) Geswein

Anna Marie (Schmelz) Geswein, 86, of Lanesville, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, with family by her side. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church, where she was active in the quilter's group and St. Anne Altar Society. Anna was proud to have helped run the quilt booth at the annual church picnic for over 50 years.

She was born on October 5, 1935, in Crandall, Indiana, to George and Margaret (Betz) Schmelz. In addition to her parents, Anna was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy (Geswein) Dye; and siblings, Alphonse Schmelz, Leonard Schmelz, and Mary Welch.

Anna is survived by her husband of nearly 64 years, Maurice Geswein; daughters, Jane Berkley (Scott) and Diane Kost; grandchildren, Adam Dye (Tara), Alex Dye (Keziah), Abigail Kost, Nolan Berkley (Olivia), and Lydia Matteau (Harrison); and great-grandchildren, Avery, Triston, and Raegan Dye.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2022, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Monday after 9:00 a.m. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church (2500 St. Mary's Drive NE, Lanesville) with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
