Ann Lawson Adamek died at 85 on April 9th, 2026. Born in Louisville, Ky she was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Hampden Lawson and sister of Gail Hagler of Brevard, N.C. and Joan Kuhns of Louisville, Ky.
Ann spent her career as a licensed Clinical Social Worker, having received her Master of Social Work degree from Kent School of Social Work in 1969. From 1977, she was in private practice as a marriage and family therapist until she retired.
She was actively involved at All Peoples Unitarian Church since 1972 and a valued volunteer with Hosparus of Louisville since 1989.
Ann balanced her career as a social worker by pursuing a love for watercolor painting. As the result of having three of her paintings accepted by Aqueous, a national juried exhibition sponsored by the KY. Watercolor Society, Ann achieved the status of Signature Member of the KY. Water Color Society. She was juried as an Exhibiting Member of the KY. Guild of Artists and Craftsmen. Her artwork was is available and exhibited at the KY. Artisan Center at Berea in Berea, KY., the KY. Museum of Art and Craft in Louisville and Corner Café in Louisville KY.
Ann lived a full life. She tried to embody two of her favorite quotations: “Let the beauty we love be what we do,” by Rumi and “an unexamined life is not worth living,” by Socrates. Her love of nature and the outdoors included membership in the Sierra Club and making jewelry from real flowers. She enjoyed contra dancing, playing the dulcimer and bridge, as well as attending the theater and concerts. All who were blessed to know Ann knew that when you were with Ann, she was present with a listening and compassionate heart and in the moment with you. A quality that is a treasure of greatest value in our current day. Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Adamek and his son Chad Underwood; and her parents Dr. Hampden C. and Mrs. Elizabeth W. Lawson, her sisters Joan Lawson Kuhns and Gail Lawson Hagler. She is survived by her beloved “Sweetie” Edwin Foote of 28 years, her step grandson Cody Underwood, Nephews and Nieces: Jim Kuhns, Carter Hagler, Lawson Hagler, Elizabeth Lluch, Ellen Craddock, Anne McCarthy, Will Hagler & Hampden Kuhns. Seventeen grand nephews and nieces and four great grand nephews and nieces and multiple dear friends, old and new, and far too many to name.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Ann’s memory may be made to All Peoples or Hosparus of Louisville. A celebration of Ann’s life will be at a place and date yet to be determined. Cremation was chosen with ashes to be interred at Cave Hill Cemetery next to her long term “Sweetie”, Edwin Foote and her parents.
As plans for Ann’s Celebration of Life develop, we will update here and invite all to attend.
