Ambrose D. Collins (Tom), 92, passed away in Louisville, KY at the home of his daughter on January 9, 2015. Ambrose was born on May 4, 1922, in Washington, D.C. the fifth child to the late John T. and Marie E. (Douglass) Collins. He graduated from Anacostia High School in Washington, D.C. before entering the Navy. He served his country proudly during World War II in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. He was aboard ship during the Normandy Invasion on D-Day at Omaha beach and on a warship in Tokyo Bay during the Japanese surrender. After leaving the Navy, he served four years in the Merchant Marines.

He was a lifetime member of the Scott, Johnson, Collins VFW Post 9619 in Morningside, MD. During his lifetime he was an avid golfer, as well as an active member of the Crystal City Lion's Club, the Elks and the American Legion. Ambrose was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 99 and retired in 1986.

He married Evelyn D. Collins in 1949, she preceded him in death in 1963. Ambrose is survived by his daughter, Ellen M. Collins and three generations of nieces and nephews.

He will be cremated in Louisville at the Newcomer Funeral Home. The family is planning a memorial service at a later date in Washington, D.C.
