Alvin John Blackman

February 19, 1937 — January 29, 2017

Alvin John Blackman, 79, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2017. He loved Opera and Classical music and watching Western movies. Alvin had a passion for locomotives and even knew their schedules and could recognize the type when he saw them. He was very witty and knowledgeable of all kinds of trivia.

Alvin is survived by his brother, Stephen Blackman; sister, Judy Renn (Dennis); many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Adrian and Mabel (Stapes) Blackman; and sisters, Joyce Bagshaw and Norma Anderson.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2017, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 6:00 p.m.

Alvin's family would like to extend their gratitude to all the staff at Lincoln Hills Health Center and the staff in Hosparus at Baptist Health Floyd for their amazing care.
