Alverna Kalfus McCallie departed this life on April 15, 2017. She was born on September 18, 1935 to the union of George Kalfus and Velma Finley Kalfus. She was the second oldest of four daughters and two sons.

Alverna attended Central Colored High School in 1952. She was gainfully employed for the City of Louisville and The Volunteers of America. Alverna's church home was Youngs Chapel AME Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Tim McCallie.

Alverna leaves to mourn her sons, Dellette, Dellvet (Lynn) and Chiquan (Adrian) McCallie; sisters, Jessie Summers, Charry Horace and Ruby Moore; brothers, James (June) and Norman Kalfus and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, April 21, 2017, at Youngs Chapel AME Church (1039 S. 16th Street, Louisville, KY) from 6pm-9pm. A celebration of life for Alverna will be Saturday, April 22, 2017, beginning at 11am at Youngs Chapel AME Church.

Graveside services will be Monday, April 24, 2017, at 11am at Zachary Taylor National Cemetery, 4701 Brownsboro Road, Louisville, KY.
