Alva "Buddy" Merle Hornback, a man whose life was deeply woven with faith, family, and hard work, peacefully passed away on March 26, 2026, in Clarksville, Indiana. Born on June 24, 1938, in Grayson County, Kentucky, Buddy lived a life marked by devotion—to his faith, family and anyone lucky enough to have him as a part of their life.
Buddy’s journey was one of humble beginnings and steadfast dedication. After attending school in Louisville, Kentucky, he set forth on a path that reflected his tireless work ethic and ingenuity. Known affectionately throughout his community as "the radiator man," he was a proud business owner, working as a mechanic whose skill and integrity served many generations. His commitment extended beyond mechanics; Buddy faithfully delivered mail from the Louisville post office to several Indiana Post offices, for Niehaus for many years. He also dedicated himself to farming, tending to cattle and working the land, a true labor of love.
Yet perhaps the truest measure of Buddy’s heart was found not in his labor alone but in his role as a man of faith. Buddy quietly ministered through small acts of kindness and compassion, serving those around him in their times of need. His faith was the backbone of his life, shaping a spirit that was hardworking, honest, and devout.
Family was Buddy’s greatest joy and accomplishment. He was a loyal husband to his beloved wife, Marie Hornback, who stood steadfastly by his side through the years and by his bedside in his final moments. Together, they nurtured a loving family. Buddy was a loving father to Teresa Grubb, Michael Richardson (Stacy), and Chris Richardson (Kelly). Watching his grandchildren—Kasey Gibson, Kylie Richardson, Blake Richardson, Chase Richardson, Braden Richardson, Olivia Richardson, and Kyler Richardson—grow brought him joy. He embraced his role as a Father and grandfather to many generations.
The passing of cherished family members—his mother; Hallie Hornback, father; Alva "Pete" Hornback; granddaughter, Ashley Hodges; and brother, Charles Hornback—left an indelible mark on his life, yet Buddy carried their memories with grace, keeping them close in his heart.
Buddy was a man of many simple pleasures and lively passions. Whether cutting wood with the gusto of a Paul Bunyan, tinkering with cars and equipment, watching NASCAR and football, or enjoying game shows on television, he poured enthusiasm into every interest. Above all, his favorite pastime was spending time with family, sharing stories that wove the rich tapestry of a life well-lived.
A visitation will be held on March 31, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Kingdom Life Church, 11515 US-31, Sellersburg, Indiana. Following this, his funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m., where friends and family will gather to celebrate a remarkable life lived with purpose and love.
Alva "Buddy" Merle Hornback leaves behind a legacy of faith, resilience, and unwavering love. His story is etched in the memories of those he touched. Though he has left this world, his spirit will forever resonate through the hearts of his devoted wife, children, grandchildren, and all who knew him. In his passing, we remember a man whose greatest pride was watching his family grow and thrive—a true testament to a life that was rich in love and meaning.
