Allys Huff

November 7, 1935 — September 24, 2024

Louisville

Allys McConnell Huff, 88, passed away comfortably and peacefully following a courageous battle against Alzheimer’s – Dementia with her husband Bill, and two sons, Tom and Scott, by her side. Allys was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her five grandchildren: Zach, Lauren, Tyler, Chase, and Julia provided endless pride and joy. She was able to embrace her new great-granddaughter Aubrey just months before her passing. Allys was pre-deceased by her sisters Jean, Cathryn and Carolyn, and her brother John.

Allys met husband Bill on a blind date, and they married on March 5th, 1960. She was a loving and supportive wife of 64 years. After many moves, she called Louisville, Kentucky home in 1976 and adored her many friends and the aura of the Bluegrass State. She was always a compassionate and empathetic educator, earning her master’s degree in education from the University of Louisville in 1980 and later, a Reading Specialist degree. She taught reading and computer programming at the Walden School and tutored students with learning disabilities with aplomb.

Genealogy was a true passion for Allys, and she left an incredible gift of thoroughly researched and documented family histories. She was a confirmed member of the Mayflower Descendants as well as Colonial Dames and Daughters of the American Revolution. She dedicated significant time supporting these historical research organizations and was a volunteer greeter and docent at Locust Grove and wreath-layer at Zachary Taylor National Cemetery. In her spare time, she painted wonderful masterpieces as a self-taught artist.

A celebration of her amazing and rich life will be held at Christ Church United Methodist, 4614 Brownsboro Rd, Louisville, KY at 11am on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. A graveside service will follow at 2pm at the Floydsburg Cemetery in Crestwood, KY.
