Allen W. Smith, born on April 1, 1951, in New Albany, Indiana, departed this life on June 7, 2025, in his beloved hometown. Allen was a cherished member of his community, known for his compassionate spirit and dedication to those he served.
For many years, Allen devoted himself to working as a caretaker for disabled children at Silvercrest in New Albany, where he made a positive difference in the lives of many families. His innate ability to connect with others led him to a fulfilling career at the Census Bureau, where he continued his passion for helping those around him for the last decade.
Beyond his professional life, Allen found joy and solace in his hobbies and interests. A passionate comic book collector, he cherished his collection and shared his love of comics with others. His faith was an integral part of his life as well, as he worshipped at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in New Albany. He enjoyed spending his time going out with old friends, watching movies, and creating cherished memories with his two sons.
Allen is survived by his two sons, Jonathan Smith and Jordan Smith, who were his pride and joy. He also leaves behind his brother, Albert (Ruth) Smith, sister-in-law, Mary Jo Smith, niece, Alisha Curtsinger, nephew, Larry Burchette, and his best friend, Mark Miller.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert H. and Carolyn Elisabeth Smith, and his brother, David Smith, all of whom he held dear in his heart.
Allen W. Smith will be remembered not only for his professional contributions but for the love and joy he brought into the lives of those around him. His legacy of kindness and dedication will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, (1534 Slate Run Road, New Albany, Indiana) at 2:00 PM.
