Albert Henry "Bert" Payton, Jr., 76, of Clarksville, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, June 1 2025. Born on February 2, 1949, in New Albany, he was the son of Albert, Sr. and Mary (Homberger) Payton. Bert served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
A proud supporter of the Indiana Hoosiers, Bert's passion for sports was matched only by his love of Chevrolet vehicles and the intricate art of building model cars. He dedicated much of his time and energy to his family, particularly his grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart. Bert played an active role in their lives, instilling in them the values of kindness, hard work, and perseverance.
In addition to his parents, Bert was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Dooley. He is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Gail (Seals) Payton; his daughter, Sharon Fisher (Crit); and his son, Eddie Payton (Kim). His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Kiara Craven, Madeline Fisher, Andon Payton, Henry Fisher, and Keean Payton. Bert is also survived by his sister, Mary June Temple, who will fondly remember her brother.
Bert's wishes were to be cremated, and Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) has been entrusted with his care.
