Albert Glenn Northington

August 20, 1950 — December 17, 2018

Albert "AL" Glenn Northington was born in Louisville, KY on August 20, 1950 to the late Isiah Northington and Addie Stoudamire Northington Allen.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Robbie Northington; one brother Keith Northington; one niece, Niko Northington and his step mother, Joann Northington.

He was raised in Flint, Michigan. He was a graduate of Northwestern High School in Flint, MI and received his Master's Degree from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Albert has lived in several states and different places such as Michigan, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky and Washington, D.C. but, he made his home in Louisville, KY. Albert was an avid sports fan of all sports.

He loved and enjoyed being around his family. He really enjoyed all of the family outings and gatherings. Albert loved to travel and he had a bucket list of places he wanted to go and things he wanted to see which he pretty much fulfilled each one on that list.

Albert was also known as an exceptional Motivational Speaker. He was very friendly and outgoing. He never met a stranger. He always greeted people with a beautiful smile.

Albert loved helping and working with the youth. He always tried to encourage them. He retired from teaching in the Jefferson County Public School system. He had coached the Boys Basketball team at Central High School and the Girls Basketball teams at Iroquois, Fairdale and Moore High Schools. He made "History" in 2009. Coach Albert "AL" Northington was the first African American coach to win the Girl's Kentucky High School State Basketball Championship. He was inducted into Kentucky's High School Hall of Fame. Albert also worked for the Home of the Innocents working with the youth.

He is survived by one daughter, Angela Williams of Detroit, MI; two sons, Elder Coron (Emma)Bentley of Detroit, MI and Mark Fisher who is currently in the Military stationed in Belgium; two grandsons DaVontae and DeAndre Battle and one great-granddaughter, Demia Battle all of Detroit, MI; Four brothers, Frank (Lauralee) Northington of Louisville, KY; Clarence (Joyce) Northington of Flint, MI; Anthony "Tony" (Pearl) Northington of Lagrange, GA, Kenneth (Roma) Northington of Fairburn, GA; three sisters, Veda (Mack) Booker of Kennesaw, GA; Cynthia (Ralph) Ray of Smyrna, GA and Tawana Wales of Colorado Springs, CO.; two step-sisters, Maxine Clemons of Swartz Creek, MI and Betty Mason of Saginaw, MI; one aunt, Delores Clopton of Louisville, KY and a host of nephews, nieces and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 26, 2018, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Southwest Louisville Chapel, 10304 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY from 11am-1pm with a celebration of Albert's life beginning at 1pm.

Burial will follow at Green Meadows Cemetery, 3800 Shanks Lane, Louisville, KY
