Juanita H. Zutt, age 81, “Mom”, “Grandmommie”, devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and great-aunt, peacefully passed away after a long illness on Saturday October 22, 2011 surrounded by her loving family and many friends in her final days and hours.

She was born Juanita June Hollis in Louisville, KY, a 1948 graduate of Shawnee Girls High School. She was a talented athlete, and active for many years in Louisville womens' competitive fast pitch and slow pitch softball and basketball. She was recruited to play semi-professional baseball in the All-American Girls Baseball League for the Illinois Caterpillar Dieselettes. Juanita “Lefty” was inducted into the Louisville area Softball Hall of Fame (1987) as well as the Kentucky Softball Hall of Fame (2009).

She was a tireless advocate for individuals as well as animals, and involved in many local crime victims’ advocates and pet rescue activities. Throughout her life, she was able to rescue many dogs including her latest, "Mick" and "Max." She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Zutt Sr.; sisters Laura Hollis Whittaker and Betty Hollis McCoun, brothers C.A. Hollis and Jimmy Hollis.

She is survived by three sons: Martin Jr. (Patty), John (Susan) and Michael (Donna); five grandchildren: Lindsay Russell (Lloyd), Lauren Zutt, Kristin McAllister (Jake), Jenna Zutt and Kara Zutt, and two great grandchildren (Ava and Brooklyn) and sister, Mary Hollis.

Visitation will be 2-8pm Monday October 24, and 10am-12:30 pm Tuesday October 25 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive in Middletown. Funeral service is 12:30 pm Tuesday October 25 at Newcomer Funeral Home, with burial following at Resthaven Cemetery.
