Susan W. Krause
1948 - 2023

Susan W. Krause, age 74, passed away at Richwood Nursing & Rehab, a caring and loving facility, on Friday, September 15, 2023, with family by her side.

Susan was a born nurturer and fiercely loved her family, friends, music students and her church families. Even though Susan never had her own children, she was a mother figure to many kids, starting with her own nieces and nephews as well as her cousins’ children. She taught preschool music in many daycares for years in the Louisville area. She also had thousands of private piano students both young and old. Miss Susan was beloved by all of them.

Susan took great joy in making people feel special and cared for. She loved giving gifts and especially enjoyed sending greeting cards for every occasion. She also enjoyed cooking and loved trying new recipes from her many cookbooks. She had a passion for baking homemade Christmas cookies for her piano students and each student received an entire plate of cookies!

Susan graduated from LaSalle-Peru High School where her music career actually started. She played piano beautifully with the school plays and operettas. She went on to study piano performance at Illinois Wesleyan University. She then finished her university studies in history, philosophy, and music at University of Louisville, where she also studied abroad in England.

Susan played church music for many different denominations. Just prior to her illness, she still played piano for Mass at Holy Trinity and services at Hopewell Presbyterian Church.

Susan is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Philip Krause and Peggy McGee Krause.

Left to honor Susan and remember her love are sisters, Kathryn Krause Learn (Brad), Kimberly Krause Clements (Steve), Carol Krause (Jeff Baize); as well as nephews and nieces, Christopher Learn (Sarah Goldberg), Timothy Learn (Mandy), Chris Baize (Holly), Danny Clements (Michelle), Tori Clements (Vee Unwin), Henry Learn, Fritz Learn, Theodore Clements, Ellie Learn and Elise Baize; and a host of relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank the following for their loving and compassionate care of Susan: Nurses and caregivers at Norton Brownsboro Hospital; the surgeons, oncologists, nurse practitioners, nurse navigator, social worker at Norton Brain Tumor Center; PAM REHAB; Richwood Nursing & Rehab; the EMS crews at Oldham Co. EMS; and, Hosparus of Louisville. Specifically, we would like to thank Tammy, staff nurse and Naomi, nurse practitioner at Richwood as well as all the nurses and staff who were absolutely wonderful!!! And, special thanks to Ashley, hospice RN from Hosparus who cared for Susan so lovingly in her last days.

Visitation for Susan will be held at Beulah Presbyterian Church, 6704 Bardstown Road, on Saturday, October 21st from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon with a Celebration of Life immediately following. Officiants will be Rev. Andrew Hartmans and Rev. Bill Owens.

There will be a reception following the services and all are invited.
