Janie Lynn Dowell, 63, of Sellersburg, Indiana, entered Eternal Life with her Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven surrounded by her loved ones on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.

Janie was born on December 17, 1959, in Henderson, Kentucky, to William Donald Johnston and Judy Hussell.

Janie had a varied career as a registered nurse. She worked as a hospital floor nurse, the director of nursing at several long-term care facilities, and the director of rehabilitation Services for a regional provider. Janie loved to read, take photos, study butterflies and other insects, and generally be out in nature. Janie was a committed follower of Jesus Christ and a longtime member of Graceland Baptist Church. She very seldom met a stranger and would most likely inquire if they knew Jesus. She would then continue to discuss the good news of the Gospel.

Janie is survived by her husband of 34 years, Kenneth C. Dowell; her children, Nick Thomas, Katelyn Dowell, and Chris Dowell; her mother, Judy Colby; her brother, Ben Johnston; her daughter-in-law, Jenn Thomas; and her grandchildren, Carson Thomas and Alivia Thomas.

Janie was a godly woman and an incredibly strong woman. She left a legacy to her family of God’s amazing love and grace and was an example to all who knew her. We look forward to the day we will be reunited in Heaven.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Janie's memory can be made to Graceland Baptist Church (3600 Kamer Miller Road, New Albany, IN 47150).

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana). Her Memorial Service will follow at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Cremation was chosen following Janie's wishes.
