John Joseph Norton, 78, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Friday, October 21, 2022. He served in the United States Marine Corps and had a successful career as a roofer, owning Norton Brothers Roofing. John enjoyed playing golf and was an avid fan of the Indiana Hoosiers.

He was born on October 13, 1944, in New Albany to Frank and Virginia (Ward) Norton. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Tessa; ten siblings; niece, Tamara Lindsey; and nephew, Dougie Billman.

John is survived by his wife, Judy (Hughes) Norton; children, John M. Norton (Sarah Ann), Rhonda Thomas (Myron), Lynda Lee (Mike), and Charles "Mike" Rawlings, Jr.; sisters, Marilyn Pumphrey (Sonny) and Linda Wheeler (Val); sisters-in-law, Saundra, Joan, and Pam Norton; brother-in-law, Johnny Billman; grandchildren, Destiny, Kaleigh, Violet, Michael "Mick," Shelby, Dylan, Marshal, and Briar; two great-grandchildren; his beloved dog, Luna; and many nieces, nephews, and good friends.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Thursday after 9:00 a.m. His funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with burial and military honors to follow at Fairview Cemetery in New Albany.

Contributions in John’s memory may be made to the Floyd County Animal Rescue League (215 W. Market Street, New Albany, IN 47150).
