Rev. Msgr. Paul Koetter, 70, priest of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2022, at Franciscan Hospice House after a valiant battle with ALS. Msgr. Koetter was born to Bernard H. Koetter and Catherine (Trindeitmar) Koetter on June 22, 1951, in Floyds Knobs, Indiana. He was one of nine children. Ordained to the priesthood on May 21, 1977, Msgr. Koetter served at Our Lady of Perpetual Help (New Albany, Indiana), St. Therese of the Infant Jesus (Little Flower, Indianapolis, Indiana), St. Agnes (Nashville, Indiana), St. Monica (Indianapolis, Indiana), and Holy Spirit (Indianapolis, Indiana) parishes. Additionally, he served as Archdiocesan Vocations Director, Vicar for Ministry Personnel, and dean to the Bloomington Indianapolis East and Indianapolis West Deaneries.

Msgr. Koetter was a beloved pastor, brother, uncle, and friend. As a meaningful voice and esteemed leader for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis for 45 years, he dedicated his life to faith and service and was a guidepost and confidant to so many. His impact reached generations, and his love and laughter will be missed forever.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, his sister-in-law Teresa (Lally) Koetter, and his great nephew, Charles Koetter.

He is survived by his eight siblings, Ted (Tyleaigh) Koetter, Ron (Charlotte) Koetter, Carol (Edward) Johnson, Joe (Linda) Koetter, Steve (Donna) Koetter, Kevin (Janet) Koetter, Sister Mary Ann Koetter, OSB, and Bernie (Jeri) Koetter. He was a proud uncle of 24 nieces and nephews and 34 great-nieces and -nephews.

Contributions may be made to the ALS Association, the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, and Holy Spirit Catholic Church (Indianapolis).

Visitations will be Thursday, May 26, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Indianapolis, prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m.; Friday, May 27, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral, Indianapolis; and Saturday, May 28, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church, Floyds Knobs. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 27, at 11:00 a.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral, Indianapolis. Burial will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 28, at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church, Floyds Knobs, Indiana.
