Paul Richard Pollitt

March 15, 1945 — October 17, 2021

Paul Richard Pollitt, born March 15, 1945, at St.Joseph's Hospital in Louisville, KY, died October 17, 2021, at the VA Hospital in Louisville, KY.

Paul grew up in Lyndon, attending Lyndon Elementary School with his sister and three brothers. He graduated from Waggener High School and - coming from a family that valued education - graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1968 with a degree in Accounting. Upon graduation, Paul was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served for two years in Korea at the DMZ. Returning home, he worked two years for the Government Accounting Office. In September of 1972, Paul married in the home he had grown up in, and a year later his son, Paul Richard Pollitt, II, was born.

Paul then returned to school at the University of Louisville, where he graduated from Medical School in 1976. After completing his Residency in the Panama Canal Zone with the U.S. Army, he came home to Louisville and opened a General Medicine Clinic, where for twenty-five years he focused particularly on helping the less advantaged and uninsured in the community; Dr. Pollitt was well-known for never turning anyone away. He continued in the Army Reserves, retiring as a Captain, and a few years later, his medical services were recruited by the U.S. Air Force, where he eventually retired as a Major. Paul distinguished himself as an exceptional diagnostician, and his extended family has proved as grateful for his services as all of his patients.

Paul is survived by his son, Paul Richard Pollitt, II, one brother, Basil Clark Pollitt (Alyce), and his faithful companion, Zeus. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Pollitt, Jr. and Frances Arnold Nall Pollitt of Lyndon, his sister, Mabel Aud Pollitt Whitted (Charles), brother Samuel Pollitt, III (Linda), and brother Leslie Michael Pollitt (Sue). Paul will be interred at Resthaven Cemetery beside his father and mother in the Chapel of Faith, where a Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, November 6, 2021.
