1932 - 2021

John Ashbrook Salyers Sr. born June 13, 1932 in French Lick, Indiana, passed away Monday, September 13, 2021 at the age of 89 in Louisville, Kentucky. John attended high school in New Albany Indiana and played French horn in the high school band. After graduation he joined the United States Navy where he served 4 years during the Korean War. After his service he attended college at Tri State in Angola Indiana and received a degree in electrical engineering. He was hired after College by Honeywell and worked for them for 38 years in Louisville Ky., Evansville, In., Indianapolis, In., Atlanta Ga., and then back again to Indianapolis. After retirement he worked at the D.A.V. in Louisville first, as a volunteer and then later as a claims processor. He retired several times from the D.A.V., only to be called back to serve. John was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Helen Vanhoy and his father, John A. Salyers and his sister Louise Asherbranor.

John is survived by his wife Carolyn Bruce Wood; daughters, Stacy and Linda; and sons, John, Bruce and Jimmy; his sisters, Janet Vandagriff and Linda Boaz; and brother, Donald. He also had 7 grandchildren, Tina, Carly, Nathan, Hailey, John, Bryan, and James; as well as 4 great-grandchildren, Amelia, Lyla, Isadora and Daxton.

Mass of celebration will be 10am on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 6500 St Bernadette Ave, Prospect, KY 40059. Private burial to follow.
