Mary Ruth Carrico, 79, Louisville, KY, passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2021.
Ruth was born on November 3, 1941 in Louisville, KY to the late Louis Frederick Miller and Mary Bell (McNutt) Miller. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Robert "Bob" Carrico, Sr. and son Joseph Robert "Rob" Carrico, Jr.
Mary Ruth, (Ruthie), was a dedicated Christian and a long time member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Fern Creek.
She served there for years as an RCIA sponsor, school library aid, and CCD teacher. Ruthie accepted Jesus as her LORD and savior as a young girl, and dedicated herself to sharing her faith with her children and others.
She met and fell in love with Joseph Robert Carrico, (Bob), at a church revival at age fourteen. They were married in January 1961, and Bob was truly the love of her life. They were active church volunteers, serving together for years as RCIA sponsors and in any area where there was a need. They enjoyed square dancing in their younger days, and completing home decor projects together over many years. They raised three children and shared 47 years of marriage until Bob's death in 2007.
No three children ever felt more loved and valued by their mom than Lynnette, Anjanette, and Rob. Ruthie completely embraced whatever they were into. They enjoyed endless childhood summers with her at Whispering Hills Country Club, as they all shared a love of swimming and pool time. She attended countless school sporting events, cheering them on at basketball and softball games, track and cross county meets, and even all day swim meets. She made birthdays extra special, baking requested homemade favorites such as German chocolate, Italian Creme, and Texas sheet cakes.
Ruthie was so very proud of her three grandchildren, Shannon, Wes, and Annika. She spent quality time with them, pouring into them with all her heart. They each have priceless memories of times with her as a result.
Ruthie was an only child. But God blessed her with adopted sisters and life long friends in Rita Cambron, Barbara Helm, and Linda Carrico. They truly loved each other as sisters, and shared much of life together for many years.
Ruthie was a talented homemaker, and enjoyed celebrating the holidays with festive seasonal decor. She was a social butterfly who truly loved being with people.
A snappy dresser until the end, she was known for her fashion sense. In her younger days she wore matching shoes, purses, and heels, with every outfit. She enjoyed bright colors, vibrant patterns, animal prints, and big earrings. She was a Red Hat Lady, with a big red wardrobe. She was also known for her extensive UofL wardrobe. A lifelong fan, she wore her spirit wear proudly on game
days, and sometimes the entire week. Her collection included purses, boots, earrings, hats, bracelets, jackets, and more.
Ruthie loved spending time with family and friends, the ocean, being in the sun, beautiful flowers, butterflies, and traveling the world with AnJanette. In her last few years she and Lynnette became movie buddies, going to the cinemas together to see the latest releases. She had a heart for animals, but was especially endeared to dogs. She so loved her rescue dog, Shadow.
Mary Ruth was a sweet spirit, and known for her beautiful smile. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She sends a special message to family and friends from Heaven, just as she always signed her cards and letters. Until we meet again.
Peace and Love, Ruthie!!
Ruth is survived by daughters Lynnette Carrico Pierce (Jay Pierce), AnJanette Carrico Schlemmer (CDR. W.E. Schlemmer), three grandchildren Shannon Kenny Gelyon (Joe Gelyon), Wes and Annika Schlemmer.
