Dorothy “Dottie” Shoemaker Wesley, 97, passed away on January 10, 2021 at the Episcopal Church Home in Louisville. She was the wife of the late James P. “Jim” Wesley.

She was born June 22, 1923 in Falmouth, KY to the late Jason Carr and Myrtie Foley Shoemaker. She was a member of Falmouth Christian Church and graduated from Falmouth High School in 1941. After going to business school in Cincinnati, she moved to Lexington to attend the University of Kentucky.

Dottie and Jim met on a blind date to a UK dance, and they married in 1948. They were still dancing together and cheering for the Wildcats 60 years later. They had one daughter Susan, and then welcomed son-in-law Mike, and grandson Wesley.

Dottie and Jim were long-time members of Southern Hills United Methodist Church where Dottie was a member of the Pat Herren Circle.

During her career, she was a secretary at the former Security Trust Company, and retired as secretary to Roger Springate, Jr., at Springate and Company.

Later in life, Dottie moved to The Lafayette in Lexington and then to the Episcopal Church Home in Louisville. The family would like to thank the ECH staff for the special care she received, especially during the pandemic and at the end of her life.

Dottie was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her brother, William Foley Shoemaker (Mary); two sisters, Alicia Shoemaker and Evelyn Jones (Gatton); two brothers-in-law, Gerald F. Sorrensen, and Jim’s twin brother, Robert P. “Bob” Wesley.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Schafer, son-in-law, Mike Schafer, and grandson, Wesley Schafer; two sisters-in-law, Jo Ann Sorrensen and Norma Wesley; nephews and nieces, Billy Gatton Jones (Bonnie Quantrell), Judy Shrout (Tom), Don Shoemaker (Cathy), Billy Thomas Shoemaker (Marilyn), Carolyn Booser (Mike), Rob Wesley, Kristin Cothern (Steve), and Cindy Sorrensen (Perry Carter); great-nephews and great-nieces, Heather Allen (Jim), Brentley Jones, Travis Jones, Amy Shoemaker, Lisa Borden (David), Kristin Shoemaker, Jason Shoemaker, Matt Shoemaker (Kayla), Katie Booser, Tricia Booser, and Raymond Cothern; great-great nephews and great-great nieces, T.J. Allen, Ainsley Allen, Maggie Allen, Elliott Leib, Abi Shoemaker, and Levi Shoemaker.
