1923 - 2021

Joseph Herman Geswein, 97, passed away on Friday, January 22, 2021. He was a United States Army veteran who bravely served his country under General Patton's 3rd Army during WWII. Joe was a former employee of U.S. Steel Homes, Inc., and Kannapel's Dairy. He retired from Occidental Petroleum Corporation (Hooker Chemical Company) in Clarksville and was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Jeffersonville. He was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW Post 1693, and American Legion Post 28 and was honored to make the Honor Flight in 2010. Joe enjoyed following IU and UofL sports and the Cincinnati Reds; and for many years, he helped at local running events.

He was born on May 20, 1923, in Lanesville, Indiana, to Frank and Mary (Pressler) Geswein. In addition to his parents, Joe was recently preceded in death by his wife of over 74 years, Jean (Shewmaker) Geswein; brothers, Earl, George, James, and Charles Geswein; sister, Louise Stilger; and stepmother, Rose (Glotzbach) Geswein.

Joe is survived by his son, Fred Geswein; brother, Francis Geswein (Mary); sister, Marie "Pat" Huth; grandchildren, Jennifer Arnett (Chris) and Joanne Geswein (Michele); great-grandson, Joseph Crist Geswein; sister-in-law, Mae Geswein; step-great-granddaughter, Tiah Northway; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss him greatly.

Services with military honors will be held privately, and entombment will take place at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Science Department of Providence High School (707 Providence Way, Clarksville, IN 47129).
