John Elliott Pepper, 79, of Clarksville, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2019. John was a beloved educator and administrator who dedicated decades to the Clarksville Community Schools. John began at the Clarksville School System in 1967 as an elementary art teacher, and a year later he was named elementary principal, a post he would hold for seven years. In the 1975-76 school year, John moved to Clarksville Middle School and was principal for 17 years. After that, he returned to teaching elementary art for two more years before retiring in 1995. John was a New Albany native and an Indiana University alumnus. He was a reserve officer with the Clarksville Police Department for many years and then went on to be their Safety Division Officer. John will be remembered for his love of fishing and his passion for spending time at the bowling alley, supporting his family and the local youth.
He was born on July 23, 1940, in New Albany, Indiana, to the late Edward Dumont "Pep" and Lois Elliott Pepper. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Jean Hettich "Jeannie" Pepper.
John is survived by his loving daughters, Michelle (Trent) Wyzard and Angela (Kurt) Tate; grandchildren, Tyler (Madeline) Miller, Alanna Miller, Shelbi (Jonah) Fisher, Nicholas Williams, and Christian Tate; sister-in-law, Judy Burkhardt; and his cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 2, 2019, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana), and additional visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3, at the funeral home. His Funeral Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
