Leland Ray Phelps, 83, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2019.

He was born on June 25, 1936 in Whitesville, Kentucky to Clarence Phelps and Mildred Embry. He honorably served in the US Navy. He retired from International Harvester. He was an avid UK fan, and enjoyed watching his grandson compete in Strongman competitions, as well as spending time playing with his great grandchildren "Peaches" and "Rascal". He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Clarence Ray Phelps, mother, Mildred Holder, sister, Barbara Ann Payne, sister, Sue Clark, brother, Dennis Holder. Leland is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Betty Lou Phelps, son, Todd (Betty) Abney, daughter, Lynn (Stevie) Ray, granddaughter, Lacey (Matthew) Pardue, grandson, Shain Abney, great granddaughter, Arabella Pardue, great grandson, Ryker Pardue, sister, Helen Martin, sister, Judell McManaway, brother, Jesse Holder, sister, Cindy (Doug) Crain.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm with military honors on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - East Louisville, (235 Juneau Drive). Private family inurnment will take place at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central at a later date.

The family requests that contributions in Leland’s memory be made to Hosparus.
