Cecil Bernis, 74, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2019. Cecil was on the track maintenance crew at Churchill Downs. He always had a big smile, who always joked around. He liked to play practical jokes on anyone or anything that he could come in contact with. Cecil always had a beautiful soul and a kind heart, and will be truly missed by his pets and all who knew him.
He was born on September 23, 1944 in St. Martinsville, Louisiana to Jack and Rita (Comeaux) Bernis. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Nancy Bernis, and sister, Jackie Fromen.
Cecil is survived by his daughters, Susan (Matt) Singleton, and Bonnie Bernis, sons, John Bernis, and Joe (Thuy) Bernis. Cecil also leaves behind to cherish his memory his grandchildren, Charlotte (Josh) Barroso, Mathew Singleton, Ryan Huynh, Nancy Bernis, and Joseph Bernis, great-grandchildren, Katherine Barroso, and Jasper Barroso, sisters, Wanda (B.K.) Sullivan, Rachel (Rene) Guidry, and Tammy (Cindy) Bernis, brothers, Kenward Bernis, TeeRed (Barbie) Bernis, and Timothy Bernis, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and extended family.
Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, (10304 Dixie Hwy). His Funeral Service will be at 1:00 pm on Monday, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.
