David A. Moore
1946 - 2019

David Allen Moore, 72, of Greenville, Indiana, passed away April 22, 2019, at Baptist Health Floyd with his family at his bedside.

David led a life born for community service. He enlisted into the United States Marine Corps in 1966. He completed an active duty enlistment before serving another tour in the Reserves. After his time in the Marine Corps Dave’s heart was called to service for his community through law enforcement. He spent years working as an undercover narcotics officer for the Summit County Sheriff’s Department before his time as the Greenville Town Marshal. David, alongside his son Kevin, served for some time with the Greenville Township Volunteer Fire Department as Chaplain. After stepping down as the Marshal he continued to serve the department as a reserve. After over 20 years of service to the Town of Greenville he retired from law enforcement. He sat as the President of the Greenville Town Board until he was elected as the Floyd County Coroner. He deeply loved serving his community and its citizens. It was a joyous part of his life. The only thing Dave loved more than his community was his family and spoiling his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by us all.

David was preceded in death by his mother, Violet Yates Moore Denning; his stepfather, Robert Denning; and his sister, Joyce Soda.

David was the loving husband to his wife of 49 years, Sheila Moore. Together they had two children, their beloved son, Kevin David Moore (deceased) and Stacey Craig (Justin). David was a doting grandfather of 7 grandchildren, Lance David Moore, Kevin David Moore, David Allen Moore, Ryan Anthony Moore, Brooklynn Violet Craig, Olivia Ann Craig, and Kynlee Grace Craig; and 2 great-grandchildren, Raelyn Moore and David Allen Moore II.

David is also survived by his siblings, Peggy Stamon, James Moore, and Jerrylee Moore; and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Gathering will be from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2019, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). A Celebration of Life and military honors will follow at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation was chosen following David's wishes.
