Anna Mae (Lay) Cooley

Anna Mae "Ann" (Lay) Cooley, 91, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017. She was a member of the Walnut Street Baptist Church and was a charter member of the Preston Highway Methodist Church, both in Louisville, Kentucky. Ann was a proud homemaker for her family and was active in the PTA when her children were in school. She loved and cherished her family and made spending time with them a top priority.

Ann was born on February 14, 1926, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Shirley Lay, Sr., and Dorothy (Heishman) Poole. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Cooley; and her siblings, Anna Fay, Herbert, Marvin, and Shirley Lay, Jr.

She is survived by her children, Wayne Cooley (Nancy), Karl Cooley (Brenda), Carol Cosper (John), and Michael Cooley (Susan); 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and brother, Franklin Lay.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2017, at Newcomer-Southern Indiana Chapel (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana 47150). Her Funeral Service will follow at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens-West in Louisville, Kentucky.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ann's name can be made to the American Cancer Society (1640 Lyndon Farm Court, #104, Louisville, Kentucky 40223) or the Walnut Street Baptist Church (1143 South 3rd Street, Louisville, Kentucky 40203).
