In Memory Of
Everett Francis "Ev" Day
1927 - 2018

Everett Francis “Ev” Day, 90, of New Albany, passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2018. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in New Albany as well as a member of the Hobart Beach VFW Post 1693 and a life-member of the Cardinal Ritter Council 1221 Knights of Columbus. He served in Korea for the U.S. Army, followed by a stint in the Army Reserves. Ev retired after 39 years from the New Albany Tribune where he worked as a press room foreman. Upon retirement, Ev knew he couldn’t sit still and embarked on his second calling and found a home at his beloved Holy Family Church. He loved everything about his time at Holy Family, from the priests, teachers, and students to keeping the buildings and grounds clean and maintained.

He was born on June 9, 1927, in Lanesville, Indiana, to the late August P. and Mary A. (Ringle) Day. Along with his parents, Everett was also preceded in death by his siblings, Wilfred “Grinner” Day, Lucille Kochert, Kathleen Weinmann, Marven Day, James Day, Larry Day, and Charlie Day.

Everett is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia A. (Volpert) Day; children, Denise Erntsberger (Tim), Charles “Charlie” Day (Lisa), Therese Stevens (Lewie), and Mike Day (Beth); 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ev was a beloved husband, dad, papaw, great-grandpa, uncle, friend, and all around “Mr. Fix-it.” Ev never knew a stranger and loved the simple life filled with family gatherings and time spent with friends.

Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 19, 2018, at Holy Family Catholic Church (129 West Daisy Lane, New Albany, Indiana 47150) with the Holy Rosary being prayed at 3:00 p.m. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church with burial to follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in New Albany.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Everett’s memory may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or to Our Lady of Providence High School.
