She was born on October 15, 1921, in New Albany to the late Jacob and Agnes (Christian) Yochem. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of over 75 years, Elwood E. Hutchens, Sr.; sisters, Philomena Wayne and Helen Blessinger; brother, Joseph Yochem; and granddaughter, Kimberly Cooke.
Mary is survived by her sister, Rita Boehm; children, Judith Schroeder (Ralph “Rudy”), Alice “Carol” Crady (Jerry), Elwood “Woody” Hutchens, Jr. (Elaine), Robert Hutchens (Sue), Phyllis Kaiser (Bob), Richard Hutchens (Debra), Beth Ann Luckett (Steve), Mary Denise “MD” Smith (Carl), Laura Schnell (Mike), Tom Hutchens (fiancée, Teresa Goodman) and Mark Hutchens; 35 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and best buddy, Mac.
Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2018, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana). A Private Family Visitation will be held on Friday morning at the funeral home. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church (129 West Daisy Lane, New Albany, Indiana) with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
