Donald Leo Wheatley, Sr., 78, of New Albany, Indiana passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018. He was a 1957 graduate of Providence High School and a United States Marine Corp veteran. Don was a professional carpenter by trade and enjoyed both wine making and beekeeping. He was a man of faith and a long-time member of St. John Paul II Catholic Church.

He was born on November 21, 1939. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Kepley and Henrietta (Bauer) Whitten; brother, Joe Wheatley; and sister-in-law, Susi Hofelich.

Don is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Bette (Lowry) Wheatley; children, Mary Roberds (Steven), Debbie Miles (Kevin), Don Wheatley, Jr. (Joetta “Sue”), Dan Wheatley (Melissa); sister, Rose Marie Wilbert (Charles); sister-in-law, Judy Wheatley; brother-in-law, Tom Hofelich; 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren with three more on the way, and seven nieces and nephews.

Don chose to donate his body to science in the hope that he would give others the opportunity to learn. A reception of family and friends will be from 2 PM to 8 PM Friday, February 16, 2018 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM Saturday at St. John Paul II Catholic Church (St. Joe Hill campus).
