In Memory Of
Ruth Amata (Ritz) Kahl
1920 - 2017

Ruth Amata (Ritz) Kahl, 97, passed away in San Antonio, Texas, on October 19, 2017. Ruth worked at St. Edward’s Hospital and volunteered at St. Mary’s school cafeteria. She always had a smile on her face, loved children, and put everyone else’s needs above her own. She was an avid reader and enjoyed walking everywhere. At the age of 52, she learned how to drive when she was given her beloved green 1972 Ford Maverick. Ruth lived in Indiana for 90 years and moved to San Antonio, Texas, in 2010 to be near her daughter. Her love of the Texas weather earned her the nickname “Sunshine.”

Ruth was born in New Albany, Indiana, on January 1, 1920, to Frank and Catherine (Huber) Ritz. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Robert L. Kahl, Sr.; son Robert L. “Butch” Kahl, Jr.; four brothers; and two sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandy Kahl Frost and husband Bill; daughter-in-law, Cathy Kahl; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Alzheimer’s disease slowly took away her wonderful mind, and she lived in the past the last years of her life. The family is so grateful for the excellent nursing care she received from both Mary Powell, who treated Ruth like her own mother, and the staff of Kindred Hospice.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2017, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (415 East 8th Street, New Albany) with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.

Contributions in Ruth’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
